Biblica, The International Bible Society, exists to provide the Bible in contemporary translations and formats so that more people around the world will have the opportunity to be transformed by Jesus Christ.
From our beginnings in 1809 as the New York Bible Society, our focus was on innovative and large–scale distribution. The organisation quickly grew and in 1810, the New York Bible Society helped fund William Carey’s pioneering trip to India, to translate the Bible into Bengali, beginning a long history of translation work around the world.
Over more than three centuries, our commitment has been to see God’s Word brought to people across the world in ways they can understand. Driven by a passion to make the Bible available and understandable, in 1968 the International Bible Society became the translation sponsor of the Bible now known as the New International Version. More than one hundred evangelical scholars from six countries worked for more than ten years to complete it. The NIV has now become the most read and most trusted contemporary English Bible translation.
Today, our ministry continues to impact children, teenagers, disaster survivors, prisoners, and refugees in every major continent of the world.
