News Release – January 2020

Biblica and Hodder are delighted to announce a new and unique partnership which will help fund Biblica’s Bible translation efforts around the world, for those who still need access to contemporary Scriptures in their own heart language.

The Give to Translate campaign will encourage readers of the NIV across the UK to consider making a financial contribution to help fund new Bible translations and revisions around the world. This is in addition to the existing percentage from every NIV sale which already contributes to Biblica’s translation efforts.

Speaking about the initiative, Ian Metcalfe, Chairman of Hodder Faith, says, “The NIV is a truly unique translation, brought to us by a team of dedicated and passionate biblical scholars. As publishers of the NIV within the UK and Europe, it is a real privilege for us to be able to bring this translation to an ever–growing audience – but we are ever–mindful of the fact that many thousands of people across the globe do not have the luxury of access to many quality and contemporary translations in their heart language.

We are therefore delighted that the Give to Translate campaign will give UK readers of the NIV the opportunity to reach more and more people with God’s Word.

When the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible was first commissioned more than 50 years ago, this new English–language translation aimed to deliver the very best combination of accuracy and readability for the modern reader. It is that same philosophy of translation which has since guided Biblica’s work on more than 80 foreign language translations worldwide – always with the aim of bringing God’s Word to individuals and communities in a language and format they can easily understand.
Biblica’s UK Director of Fundraising Dan Doherty commented,

We are deeply indebted to the men and women who contribute their time and talents to the painstaking work of Bible translation. We are delighted that through this campaign, for as little as £5, individuals can bring us and other Bible translation agencies around the world, one step closer to the goal of eradicating Bible poverty within our lifetime.

More details on how individuals can support the campaign through online and text giving can be found at www.givetotranslate.com with the website profiling the current translation where funds are being allocated.
