#ReadAdvent 2017

Will you join us to read the Christmas story this Advent?

Will you join us to read the Christmas story this Advent?

When was the last time that you read the Christmas story from the Bible?

I don’t mean hearing the readings at Carol Services, watching a nativity, singing a carol or seeing snippets of verses on the front of Christmas cards. I mean going back to the Bible and looking to see where the story is actually written down? When did you last read the story in context?

In a survey carried out by The Bible Society they found that 30% of the 8–15 year olds questioned did not know the Nativity story was from the Bible. (*Pass it on, Bible Society, 2014)

Would you do any better? Can you answer the questions in our quiz?

This advent, we want to encourage you to read the Christmas story directly from God’s Word. So often we rely on other people to tell us what the Bible says, but this festive season we are giving you the opportunity to read it for yourself.

Every day we will post a Bible reading on our social media, or you can download and print out the image below with all the readings included. We are going to start at the very beginning of the New Testament and read the whole book of Matthew, before going back a few days before Christmas and read those chapters from all the Gospels that tell us the full Christmas story.

You can read along in anyway you wish. You can use your own Bible, you can read it on your phone, or listen to an audio version. Whether it is a pocket Bible, a pew Bible, a CBE/Books of the Bible version, an Accessible Edition or even a Bible in another language – you are very welcome to #ReadAdvent with us this December.
